More praise for Stephen Heard and SNUB

"Really well done!  You have stood up to the BDC planning bullies and given them an extremely well deserved bloody nose!  The Leader of Broadland's comments on tonight's Radio Norfolk showed no sign that he has changed his frankly pig-headed attitude - he's trying to make out that the Judge's order means no more than a minor tweaking of a few insignificant procedural matters.  This is far from the truth: the whole JCS, the "Growth Triangle" in particular, will now have to be revisited.  It can't be said that it will have to be consulted on again, as it wasn't really consulted on in the first place.  Instead, it will have to be consulted on, properly, for the first time.  We will then see what the people affected actually think about their plans to turn virtually every piece of open space between Norwich and Salhouse into a giant housing estate.  It will be no surprise if the overwhelming tide of public opinion is that BDC's plans are ridiculously unacceptable.

Thanks for all your tireless hard work on this.  It is disgusting that arriving at a situation where future development in this area revolves around simple common sense, depends upon the efforts of a handful of unpaid amateurs, acting against a council full of highly paid professionals."

  1. SNUB and their friends (and their shady financial backers drawn from disgruntled local landowners whose sites weren't accepted as part of the JCS) can try to make whatever capital they want out of this - the upshot is that the judge agreed with them on a fairly minor technical point and the ruling definitely does not mean that there won't be a mass of new development on SNUB's doorstep - in fact it makes it more likely. It means that things like the Norwich Hub at Salhouse, and even more development sites round Norwich, which were rejected last time, will resurface and have to be reconsidered in full, and may even get through this time. Way to shoot yourself in the foot, Mr Heard!

  2. Anonymous Mar 1 2012 05:39 should check his or her facts first before making such a false accusation.
There are no local landowners backing SNUB. The people who are backing SNUB are just local residents like myself and some who live firther affield and who are not affected by it at all. None are wealthy nor shady but we are however prepared to stand up and dip our hands deeply into our pockets in order to save our countryside from the developers. When the High Court Judge rules the JCS unlawful it means precisely that, it does not mean it is a technicality just like Mr Proctor would like everyone to believe.
Perhaps anonymous would prefer to lie down and let the developers walk all over Norfolk and destroy it, that is until they want to build right next to his or her backyard.

  3. YEs Mr.Smith, I thouroughly agree! but it's typical that somebody who wishes to make such accusations and comments, hasn't got the 'orchestra stalls' ( and that's cockney rhyming slang to you)to even put their name to it. It's always very easy to 'hide' behind a 'nom de plume' rather than do what SNUB and local residents did,stand-up and be counted.

  4. Anonymous Mar ist 05;39 just does not have a clue ( so why bother commenting)....a couple of FACTS for you; the Hub at Salhouse was NOT rejected, it was 'EXPOSED' by local residents and the GNDP had to very quickly and 'sheepishly' deny all knowledge of any Hub plans funny, how the 'hub' was propmoted by a leading Portfolio holder? and also 'funny'it was the GNDP that undertook a feasability study on conference centres in the Broads area, using GNDP ( OUR) moneies and then,'fully' denied any involvement ( which curiously caused upset with their GNDP Partners and colleagues at Norwich City Council as they had 'earmarked St.Andrews hall for a conferenece centre?),they then tried to alter emailed comments on their website from local residents' who expressed oppositions to the 'Hub and other innapropriate developements? And Anonymous Mar 1st 05;39 how even more thick can you be, the present English laws and legislations on planning are more than adequate and 'robust' and if enforced correctly, will rebuff any unsuitable developements and sites not appropriate that the planning commitee sees fit....appears to me that you are either Andrew Proctor himself or a very, very close sychophant?.... 'scaremongery' anybody? or should we now ask the concise Oxford to alter the word to 'Proctormongery'? Young Rackheath Resident.

  5. Anonymous is clearly suffering from sour grapes. I have no idea where he gets this idea of "shady financial backers", and "disgruntled landowners". There are no such people. As for his reference to the "Salhouse Hub". There was never going to be such a thing. The Hub that has been talked about for all of this time is planned to be built at Postwick. Mr Anonymous has based his comments on the press releases in which the council and the GNPD have been using political spin, in order to attempt to hide the unlawful procedure adopted by Broadland District Council. So get your facts right Mr Anonymous before you put, as they say, pen to paper.

  6. Councillor Proctor refuses to resign so how does he propose to re-consult as we will never trust him or his team again after their unlawful document and their refusal to listen to us. If Broadland are sincere about the need to obey the law and re-consult properly surely it must be by a completely new team who are respected by the residents.

BE WARNED EVERYONE. Broadland DC will now mount the biggest Spin Campaign you have ever seen to try and discredit and minimise the decision of the Judge. They will never give up their support of their developer friends. Just hope that SNUB will look after the interests of we locals.

    1. 22nd March 2012 at 7.00pm and Stephen Heard will be speaking for his allotted 3 minutes. He will not need that long to call for them all to resign! Next GNDP meeting is on Thursday 15th Mar at 1400 in Norwich City Council chamber. Make a point of being at both of them to show you their dissent.

  9. Hello very interested in your campaign especially the lack of consultation. I live in another part of the country. One idea you could use at meetings you are not allowed to speak at is to stand throughout the item in silent protest (let the press know what you are doing) it is very powerful especially with lots of people and if they can keep doing it at every meeting- maybe holding up small signs saying your main point of "no consultation" or "no alternatives" - worked here, just an idea....

Well done Mr Heard and we will now see just how much democracy we have left in Broadland as surely Mr Proctor, Mr Kirby or the team who voted through this unlawful document cannot be part of the NEW Consultation. I see Senior Council Executives have been enjoying themselves in Cannes recently.
