Councillors & Developers at Loggerheads

An article in today's EDP says that Barton Willmore have been accused of bypassing local planning procedures. Barton Willmore have a 20 year vision for Wymondham and want to build 3,000 homes there but councillors are saying that this scheme pre-empts the adoption of the GNDP's Joint Core Strategy which has earmarked 2,200 homes for Wymondham to be built by 2026.

Councillors claim that the proposed greenfield development is not for the benefit of Wymondham but for the financial gain of the developers and some local landowners and is opposed by most of the local residents. Councillor Joe Mooney said that the development would "create urban sprawl and disturb the character of the market town".

Residents of Norfolk seem to be caught up in a game between local councils and developers and at the end of the day it will be local people who lose out because no-one is actually listening to them.

Only 3,000 houses - what does he know about urban sprawl.
They never made a complaint when they thought the housing was all going to be dumped in Broadland.

Wakey, wakey. It is the Joint Core Strategy thats wrong, Mooney!!

    2,200 or 3,000 - try 10,000 or 15,000.
