How to do a consultation - BDC take note

Cherwell District Council over in Oxfordshire are supporting the building of an eco-town at  North West Bicester and indeed it is one of the four proposed eco-town developments which has recently seen its potential funding cut by 50%. But before any further funding is released Grant Shapps has asked that local authorities provide evidence of local support.

Cherwell District Council have introduced a simple on-line survey asking for responses to its planned 'Vision for Bicester'. The consultation period runs from 23rd August to 1st October 2010.  Here is the first question:

Please tick whether you agree or disagree with the Vision for Bicester.

How simple and how professional and how different from Broadland District Council's attempt. Also note the timing of the Cherwell consultation which comes at the end of the summer holiday period allowing parish councils' and local people opportunity and time to respond.

The Exemplar consultation pamphlet was a complete farce. Why was the question asking if we support the scheme not on page 1? Bet they were hoping that people got fed up before they got to the back of the book. If I win the £100 prize money used to bribe people to wade through this amateur document, I will donate it to SNUB to aid the fight against the plans

  2. Hope Broadland Council will learn from Bicester and see just how a Consultation should be made. Note. on the GNDP comments on the EDP headline news today that none of them mentioned consultation with local residents. The CPRE comment was SO RIGHT. Bring back our democracy

  3. The so called Consultation by Broadland DC at Rackheath on Sunday was a CON. Did not this sort of propaganda die out in the Thirties ?

  4. Rackheath residents don't kid yourselves, Broadland Council will NEVER listen to you, they only listen to the Developers who are going to make £millions from destoying your village.

  5. The option of NO SUPPORT was the LAST question on page 36, when it should have been the FIRST. By answering any question at all, tacit agreement and approval of the scheme will be taken, which ,of course, was the intention. So,to not answer any question and to not send the form in will be taken by BDC as "approval and no opposition",they will say that nobody opposed their plans and push on regardless.I suggest we all refuse to complete the form and send it back to them with the appropriate comments telling them why it has not been filled in.
